The fourth and final man accused of robbing the Vineyard Haven Rockland Trust in 2022 has agreed to plead guilty in hopes of leniency for his sentencing.

Miquel Jones, a suspect in the November 2022 robbery of the Edgartown Vineyard-Haven Road bank, entered a plea agreement with the U.S. District Court in Boston on Monday.

Mr. Jones will plead guilty to conspiracy to commit armed bank robbery, and armed bank robbery and aiding and abetting, according to the agreement. The charges can carry a sentence of up to 25 years incarceration, but, in light of the plea deal, the U.S. Attorney’s Office is recommending the lower end of the sentencing range.

Mr. Jones was one of three men who allegedly forced their way into the bank at gunpoint on Nov. 17. Wearing masks, Mr. Jones, Omar Johnson and Tevin Porter put a gun to a bank employee’s head and forced them to open the bank’s vault, police said.

According to law enforcement, the men took about $39,000, zip tied the bank employees hands and left in a bank employee’s car.

Police say Mr. Jones was living with Mr. Johnson in Oak Bluffs. The two men allegedly buried the handguns at a Tisbury farm and Mr. Jones concealed the money at their Oak Bluffs home under a bureau.

Mr. Jones was the last defendant to come to a plea agreement with federal prosecutors.

Mr. Jones was initially charged in Edgartown District Court, before the case moved into federal court.

A further hearing has not yet been set for Mr. Jones. Romane Clayton, the fourth man arrested in connection with the case, is scheduled to have a hearing on Sept. 12. None of the men have been sentenced yet.
