What can I say about August weather? It is a roller coaster of rains, winds and cancellations, in between some great sunny days. Many of us were disappointed when the All Island Art Show was canceled because of rain last weekend. No rain date was scheduled. But there is a group show you may attend at the Miner Family Gallery at 13 Beach Road Extension in Vineyard Haven. My friend James Masselli will be presenting his fine works with other artists. The show opens August 13 and goes on until late August. Be there between 5 to 7 p.m. for the opening and check it out.
A mid-summer harvest celebration was observed at Ghost Island Farm. This was a tradition the late great Gene Baer initiated at the St Pierre School of Sport here on Island. My son attended every year.
If you are into drumming our summer drummers meet every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. on State Beach between the two bridges where Camp Jabberwocky parks.
WMVY Radio and Peter Halperin invite you to tune in on Sunday nights at 7 p.m. for Peter’s Woodstove Studio program of musical artists and conversation. It is a wonderful program.
The arts are represented in horticulture on Island. The Thomas Roland Medal from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society was presented to Tim Boland who does such great work at Polly Hill Arboretum. If you have not seen or taken the kids to the arboretum I strongly suggest that.
A record 260 runners raced in the 2026 Flutie Jr. 5K raising funds for individuals with Autism. We are making good progress with that on Island.
Rev. Sen. Ralphael Warnock will speak at 2 p.m. at the Tabernacle on Sunday August 9. The theme is Words and Song. Mark Miller will lead a community choir.
With so much going on no one called with their mid August birthdays. But I can announce a wedding anniversary. Allen and Eileen Bemus observed their anniversary on August 4. May they continue to live happily ever after.
I’ll see you next week. Go to the Fair!
