David Whitmon had a grand reunion with many of his velonaut friends on the Island last week. You might have seen these beautiful machines on our roads. Same time, next year!
As far as interesting vehicles go, I am happy to announce the HillCar is here! Gretchen Baer has traveled from Bisbee, Ariz., to spend the summer with Mom Jacqueline Baer at the family home in our town. Gretchen had the HillCar trucked here from Arizona. Stay tuned for more exquisite artwork from this family of artists. I hear they will bead the HillCar.
First Friday will be different this week. Instead of closing Main street, the whole party will be down at Owen Park. Music, food, camaraderie and a bonfire are on the menu. I’ll see you there.
Also on Friday evening: Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish are performing at Featherstone. Get your tickets for a great show.
Speaking of great shows, it was announced that Ladyfest will be held on October 8 this year, in Oak Bluffs as always. Check out information at ladyfestmv.com.

Tisburyian Kathy Poehler has her latest art works at the Galaxy Gallery in the Oak Bluffs Arts District. She never quits. Kathy and her husband just returned from a wonderful trip to Seattle.
Barney Zeitz’s new sculpture has been unveiled at Memorial Wharf in Edgartown. It is on the African American Heritage Trail.
I am happy for her retirement but sad she is leaving. I am speaking of Julia Wells, my editor at this newspaper for so many years.

Get well wishes to Kate Feiffer, who wiped out on a bicycle jaunt in Scotland. Her attitude is very sunny.
