In this age of free range chicken-raising, throw an egg in the air anywhere on this Island and odds are you’ll hit a fellow chicken farmer, one might think a reference to a place called Chicken Alley speaks of some storied Shangri-la where golden eggs roll freely from the barnyard.

Reality, however, speaks to a place of no chickens but plenty of golden eggs, metaphorically at least.

Chicken Alley is a small but well-loved thrift shop located at 38 Lagoon Pond Road in Vineyard Haven. Proceeds from the shop go to the Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. The amount of money earned during the year is nothing to cluck at. However, once a summer the chicken clucks extra loudly.

On Sunday, August 15, from 1 to 5 p.m. the Chicken Alley Art and Collectibles Sale once again struts its stuff (okay, no more puns). The event is the culmination of a year’s worth of culling the best donations and holding them for this day. Art, furniture, vintage, high value items at thrift shop prices, you never know what you might find at the sale. And again all proceeds benefit Martha’s Vineyard Community Services.
