The Vineyard Gazette took home 34 awards in the annual newspaper contest sponsored by the New England Newspaper and Press Association, including 12 awards for outstanding work in photojournalism.

Alison Shaw won first place in pictorial photography for a shot of Lucy Vincent Beach. Albert O. Fischer won first place in personality photo for his portrait of Stanley Larsen aboard his fishing boat. Mark Alan Lovewell won first place in portrait photography for a photograph of Joe Keenan.

Gazette photographers Timothy Johnson, Jeanna Shepard, Maria Thibodeau, Ray Ewing and Alison L. Mead were also recognized for their work.
