As Islanders rushed about picking up gifts, dropping packages off, and readying for holiday parties, the first snowfall of the season began falling late Friday afternoon. It wasn't a lot, but just enough to give hope for a white Christmas.

Circuit avenue was the setting for a large fire drill Sunday morning involving three Island fire departments. Up to 60 fire and rescue personnel responded to the Lampost Sunday morning for a simulated fire on the second floor dance area.

In January, the Martha's Vineyard Ice Arena is one of the busiest spots on the Island. The ice rink is the home ice for the regional high school hockey teams, and hosts hockey practices and games for all ages, skating lessons and figure skating.
