Paul Beeson and Kirsten Anderson signed a deal to buy the ice cream shop on Upper Main street from Christopher Celeste in December, and since then the couple have been working with the chain’s management to get up to speed on Blizzards and Dilly Bars.
The line spilled out the door at the Edgartown Dairy Queen Thursday afternoon as crowds of squealing students celebrated the reopening of the beloved Island franchise with free ice cream cones.
The Edgartown Dairy Queen is in new hands, with longtime owners Antone (Tony) and Erika Bettencourt selling the Upper Main street business to the Celeste family.
With flurries on Wednesday and snow predicted Sunday, Vineyarders enjoyed a different type of blizzard on Thursday, as the Dairy Queen in Edgartown reopened for the season.
Racing to the Dairy Queen in Edgartown on opening day is a time-honored tradition. And the first ice cream cone (or blizzard or milkshake) is as much a marker of spring as the pinkletinks.
March 13, 2013. To most Americans this is just another day. To a kid on the Vineyard, it might as well be Christmas. Except there’s no eggnog on the menu today. There are, however, a plethora of frozen delicacies. Soft-serve frozen yogurt, fruit smoothies and, of course, the almighty Blizzard. Yes, ladies and gentleman, today is the day that Dairy Queen is officially open for business.
