The dream season for the the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School boys’ basketball came to end earlier today, as the Vineyarders lost a hard-fought and high-scoring thriller at Wareham by a final score of 92-75 in the second round of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Assocation tournament.
With the loss, the Vineyarders finish the season with a stellar record of 16-4; earlier this week they defeated Rockland at home in the first round of the tournament.
In a last-minute reversal of principal Stephen Nixon’s recent decision regarding appropriate graduation wear, the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School district committee voted last night to allow seniors, Brazilian and otherwise, to wear personalized scarves over their graduation gowns.
The vote followed an impassioned speech from former high school student and recent Emory University graduate Alex Parker.

Cape Cod Academy is the big bully of boys’ tennis on the Cape and Islands, a vastly superior program that can beat most teams with one hand behind their back.
After a lengthy candidate search for an assistant principal to replace Neal Weaver at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, school officials have opted to hire an interim candidate internally.
Matt Mulowski, an English and English as a second language [ESL] teacher at the high school, as well as the director of the high school’s alternative STAR Program, will act as the temporary assistant principal for the coming year. He began working yesterday.

Meanwhile the boys’ basketball team continued to roll this week with an easy win over Minuteman Tech, while the boys’ hockey team lost to perennial powerhouse Framingham on Saturday and Bridgewater-Raynham on Wednesday.
