Cynthia Riggs and Howard Attebery were married Saturday before a crowd of family, friends and well-wishers in the West Tisbury Congregational Church, adding a long-awaited chapter to a love story that has captured hearts and imaginations around the country.
In a home known for fostering literary talent and housing traveling artists, conversation at the Cleaveland House has been consumed lately with talk about place settings, tablecloths, decorations and flowers. A how-to book on marrying at an older age lies on the entry table amongst works of great authors.
Just after 12 p.m. on December 12, 2012, Eric Gaudette and Stacy Northrop were married atop the East Chop Lighthouse.
A handful of friends and family joined them, including long-time friends Barry Stone and Rebecca Cohen.
“They told us three weeks ago ‘We’re getting married on 12-12-12,’” said Ms. Cohen. “Eric said, ‘Barry, you’re going to be the best man, and Rebecca, you’re going to stand in as my mother.’”
Bena Lucia Duran and Eric James Bowen of Ladera Ranch, Calif. were married Saturday, August 11, with pouring showers, on the front porch at the family house in Oak Bluffs.
Walking in to acoustic guitar music, sharing vows in front of family and friends, the skies dried after dinner for dancing under the stars.
On Thursday at around 7 p.m., Marques Rivers was seen fiddling with something in his pocket. He stood beside his girlfriend of almost five years, Sarah Neubert, waiting to board the Ferris wheel at the Agricultural Fair. It was their annual “date ride” they said, the one they always take the first day of the fair. Ms. Neubert, who is mildly afraid of heights, was nervous, but not nearly as nervous as Mr. Rivers. Minutes later, just as she had summoned the courage to look up from her hands and take in the view from atop the wheel, the ride stopped.
Mr. Ivan Nikolov Sabev and Mrs. Margarita Doncheva Sabeva of Sofia, Republic of Bulgaria, are happy to announce the engagement of their beloved daughter Ivona Ivanova Sabeva, of Sofia and Edgartown, to Andrew Jason de Geofroy of Edgartown, son of Ms. Wendy Jones de Geofroy of Edgartown and Mr. Charles Antoine de Geofroy of Chilmark.
Ivona and Andrew will be married on Martha’s Vineyard in the spring.
Jae Elizabeth Strommer and Thomas Loring Rowe of Newport, R.I., were married June 9 on board the yacht Elysian at Newport.
Capt. Stephen Connett performed the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Diane W. Strommer of Pawtucket, R.I. and the late John P. Strommer. She is the granddaughter of the late Eva and Loraine Weltner of Greensboro, N.C., and the late Harold and Mildred Strommer of Greensburg, Ohio.
Ila Briggs and Peter Halby were married in Vineyard Haven on Sept. 8.
The Rev. Ross Lilley, a close friend, performed the ceremony.
The bride’s parents, Mary Vivian and Kirk Briggs, live in Vineyard Haven where the bride was raised.
The bridegroom’s mother, Susan Halby, lives in Concord and is a summer resident of Vineyard Haven. The bridegroom’s father, Christian Halby and his wife, Susan Schaefer, divide their timebetween Waylandand Chilmark.
Elizabeth Sands Anderson married Scott Eric Wolff of Navato, Calif., on Sept. 29 at the Federated Church in Edgartown. The Rev. Gerry Fritz officiated.
The bride was given in marriage by her mother, Mrs. Edmond L. Meinfelder of Pennsylvania. The matron of honor was Mrs. Geoffrey M. Curtis of Chicago, Ill. The best man was Kavin Peechaphand of Brooklyn, N.Y. A reception was held just down the hill at the Edgartown Reading Room.
