The Steamship Authority got off to a rocky start this weekend after the reservation office in Mashpee lost power in a storm and several runs on the Vineyard Route were canceled. 

A week after debris from the broken Vineyard Wind turbine washed up on Edgartown beaches, state officials said they are investigating potential harm to the region’s seafood but don’t see a need to immediately stop eating shellfish.

The massive housing bill passed Tuesday includes policies that explicitly give the Vineyard new ways to develop housing, allow accessory dwelling units by right in certain areas and make special allowances for towns with fluctuating populations. 

The sighting was around 9 a.m., according to The Trustees of Reservations, which manages the refuge, and swimming was restricted for two hours.

State contractors entered the state forest this week and cleared three homeless encampments, razing tents and leaving several Islanders without their possessions.

Though pieces of the broken Vineyard Wind turbine continued to fall into the ocean south of the Island this week, federal regulators have approved the wind farm to lay cables.

Edgartown sent out a swimming advisory to beachgoers Wednesday after pieces of foam from Vineyard Wind’s broken wind turbine washed up on Norton Point and South Beach. 

After nearly four decades in the military and law enforcement, Edgartown police Chief Bruce McNamee plans to retire at the end of September.
