The nineth annual Meat Ball Dinner and Dance Party was held at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury last Saturday. There was plenty of meat prepared by Charlie Granquist of Slough Farm to eat and afterwards dancing to the beat of the Missus Biskus.

Following long-standing tradition, students from Chilmark, Edgartown and Tisbury schools marched to the sea Friday afternoon. Bearing flowers and flags, they walked through their respective towns to toss flowers in the water in honor of Memorial Day.

It is the nesting season for American oystercatchers, the harlequin-colored shorebirds with large reddish-orange bills. Shorebird nesting areas are restricted. The photographer was accompanied by a shorebird monitor.

The regional high school sailing team traveled to Osterville on Saturday to compete in the New England Sailing Schools Association championship. This is the first year the team has qualified for the championship, which features the top eight schools in New England.

The Edgartown Firemen’s Association welcomed back their 1952 Mack pumper on Sunday with a Fire Museum open house and celebration. The truck arrived on the ferry Island Home late Saturday morning, but the reception was changed to Sunday because of concerns about the weather.

The regional high school's prom, sponsored by the junior class, took place Saturday night at Lola's in Oak Bluffs. Junior Charlotte Potter was named prom queen, with classmates Julia Neville, Anna Reinthaler, Jennifer Rosado, and Ana Rosso elected to the court.
