At a special meeting of the Edgartown Yacht Club, held at the Club rooms on Tuesday evening, Aug. 1st, the following named persons having been approved and recommended by the Membership Committee, were elected by a unanimous vote as members of the Club: Edward R. Fair winds and 74 sailboats with more than 300 sailors on board made for a spectacular sight at Saturday’s Round the Island Race. Beginning with its early morning start, the Edgartown Yacht Club race was quite a spectacle as the boats positioned themselves for eight starts. Winds prevailed for most of the race and all but two boats completed the 56-mile mile course.

Gray skies and sprightly winds launched the 80th annual Edgartown
Yacht Club Regatta yesterday. A record number of 420 class sailboats
turned out for the 10 a.m. start. At least 50 of these one-design
sailboats crossed the line. William Roman, manager of the yacht club,
said this year's regatta is clearly the year of the one-design
sailboat, with record participation by young people.
