The Yard is bringing the heat on Friday to the Chilmark Community Center with Red Baraat.

The Chilmark dance colony founded by the late Patricia Nanon 46 years ago has been awarded a prestigious $350,000 grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, both organizations announced today.

The Yard maintained the intimacy of its summer Chilmark performances on Saturday by creating a dance floor on the Performing Arts Center stage for two shows by Amirah Sackett.

Muslim hip-hop dancer Amirah Sackett brings her skills and passion to the Vineyard on Saturday as part of the Yard's winter series. Ms. Sackett said audiences can expect a “mystical” show inspired by the poetry of Rumi.

The Yard is on a mission to help Vineyarders beat the winter doldrums with dance.

The mercury was edging past 80 degrees when Le Patin Libre, the Montreal skating troupe that is redefining the art of dancing on ice, brought a new show to the Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena.

Le Patin Libre has performed on the Vineyard two times, during the cold winter months which seems fitting as it is an ice skating show.
