Thank you to Aquinnah highway superintendent Jay Smalley, who has made sure our cemetery, highways and byways look presentable for the season. The trees are in full bloom, there is an owl out at night along Lobsterville Road and the beach is calling sun worshipers already for the season. The Outermost Inn opened over the weekend.
The torrential rains of Monday night and Tuesday have certainly created more blooms and blossoms around Aquinnah. There are many beautiful birds to be found as well, as evidenced by a recent sighting of a very handsome woodpecker and beautiful chickadee. Of course the squirrels are in abundance in and around the bird feeders. Dreamcatcher opened this week and the Howwosswee Trading Post will be open by the end of the month.
Saint Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Chilmark Chocolates opened yesterday for the next three weekends and then will close until just before Easter. While in Chilmark, Lisa Bibko Vanderhoop has a variety of Valentine cards and her 2012 Seadogs Calendar at the Sovereign Bank at Beetlebung Corner from Feb. 6 to 14.
Spring has arrived in Aquinnah — the osprey are at their Lobsterville nest, the pinkletinks are in full chorus across town, the daffodils are in bloom, squirrels are in abundance, as are the rabbits. The fog has lifted and the sun is shining with temperatures in the 60s this week.
