Community Baptist Church of Gay Head will be having summer services at 9 a.m. While awaiting a new minister, we have had the fortune of guest ministers to carry on our mission and goals.

The Old South Road Association Fourth of July Parade in Aquinnah has really increased in popularity. There were many more children marching this year and more adult participation. Thank you to each and every one of you who made this such a special event for the children.

Springtime weather is supposed to return this weekend after a few days of temperatures in the 40s and 50s, windy and drizzly. We are due to have temperatures in the 70s over the weekend. The fiddleheads have poked their heads above ground and the shad are in full bloom.

The Martha’s Vineyard Neighborhood Convention will meet on Jan. 3 at the Federated Church on South Summer street in Edgartown. The worship service will be performed by the Rev. Jerry Fritz. The program will be “M.V.E.Y.G.” “What?”

Congressman Keating will be meet with members of the Vineyard community on Jan. 9 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Capawock theatre on Main street in Vineyard Haven. If you would like your voice heard, please stop by.

Santa arrived at the Aquinnah town hall on Wednesday evening. He was glad to see all the young children of Aquinnah and handed each one of them their specially selected gift.

Rev. Ellen Tatreau will be conducting the fourth Sunday in Advent service at Community Baptist Church of Gay Head on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 9 a.m. The always solemn Christmas Eve candlelight service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 24 at 5 p.m. Rev. Tatreau is also conducting a Christmas Day service at Community Baptist at 9 a.m. All are invited to attend any and all of these services.

Deer season is still in full swing with shots heard around town from sunrise to sunset. Shotgun season runs through Dec. 10. Then it is primitive firearms for the remainder of the month. Please dress accordingly while out for your evening stroll. Many people have been noticed out walking in dark blue attire throughout the week — that is totally unsafe.

Aquinnah Powwow Celebrates Long Tradition of Community

The seventh annual Aquinnah Powwow at Aquinnah Circle began Saturday at noon with the Grand Entry, a procession of dancers and drummers. Members of 10 nations were in attendance, and the powwow also honored tribal veterans and elders.

Members of the Narragansett Tribe certainly had the most representation, with Hiawatha Brown as the arena director, head dancers Christian and Leah Hopkins, Dean Stanton, who always has a remarkable style of dance, and members of the Hazard family in attendance.
