Community Baptist Church of Gay Head held their annual meeting on Sunday at the home of Rev. Roger Spinney and his wife, Sharon. Following our delicious luncheon, the business meeting convened. We were informed that Mrs. Kathryn B. Stewart had retired after being our organist for the past two decades. Kathryn has actually taught music to our community as our music teacher who would arrive every Wednesday for classes at our one-room schoolhouse from 1955 through 1968.

Friends of Aquinnah Public Library and the Aquinnah library trustees would like to invite the community to a reception to honor Jennifer Christy at the end of her day at the Aquinnah Public Library on Saturday, June 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. Jennie has been the director for the past five years and has expanded the collection, increased the usage and created many wonderful programs for the entire community to participate in. We will miss her immensely.

Community Baptist Church of Gay Head will conduct their annual Easter sunrise service on Sunday morning at 6 a.m. with Rev. Roger H. Spinney officiating.

The Aquinnah Public Library is continuing the Saturday morning coffee and tea socials. Lots of great conversations and talk about the weather, which has been improving this week.

Chilmark Chocolates will be open through tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. when they will run out of Easter candy. They will then re-open on April 29.

The Martha’s Vineyard Youth Task Force will have a Chat and Chowder evening at the West Tisbury School on March 31 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for the benefit of the West Tisbury School and Charter School parents and caregivers of sixth through eighth grade students. Change of Command at Menemsha

There was a formal change of command ceremony yesterday at U.S. Coast Guard Station Menemsha.

Under crisp blue skies, with a gentle breeze accompanying the clear view of the Elizabeth Islands and Vineyard Sound, chief boatswain’s mate Jason Olsen was installed as the new chief of the station. Now officer in charge here, Mr. Olsen’s last assignment was in North Carolina, where he was executive petty officer at the station Fort Macon.
