Congratulations to one and all for their fine job, their special part in making the Vineyard Gazette the Newspaper of the Year. It is really quite an honor for one and all who make it happen each and every week to provide the news for the Vineyard community and beyond.
Election Day — Tuesday, Nov. 2 — the Aquinnah polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please exercise your right to vote — democracy is not a spectator sport.
Holiday greetings near and far were enjoyed by one and all whether they remained at home or ventured far away. This holiday season has been a much quieter one for many people. The weather has been a welcome relief for the past week with most days in the 50s and spring just around the corner. Tomorrow night is time to turn your clocks ahead one hour as we enter daylight saving time.
Condolences to the family and friends of Thomas P. Benton, whose family resided on the town line of Aquinnah and Chilmark. I have fond memories from more than half a century ago while spending time on the beach below their home overlooking the Herring Creek.
The Aquinnah Shop has officially opened for the season, the Dreamcatcher opens tomorrow, and now all the shops and eateries will be open at the Cliffs for the season.
Mallory Butler recently returned from her frequent flyer trip to Aspen, Colo., to spend time with her granddaughter, Maeve, and parents, Jeffie Butler and Kevin Sheehan. She always has a great time with Maeve regardless of the weather.
