Roxane Ackerman returned home on Saturday after a brief stay in Brooklyn, returning with her daughter Naushon and eight-month-old granddaughter Nanawusuwee, who will be visiting family and friends for the week in Aquinnah.

Aquinnah Public Library will host Green Living with Gary Harcourt and Larry Schubert on Tuesday, June 25 at 5 p.m. at the Aquinnah town hall. Our Up-Island Council on Aging director Joyce Bowker reminds us that our UPIS LAND elders will host their annual art show today from noon to 4 p.m. at Howes House and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy the fruits of their labor from the Friday artists group. While in the middle of West Tisbury on Saturday, stop by the 25th annual West Tisbury Congregational Church Strawberry Festival from noon to 4 p.m. Try the strawberry shortcake, or have yours with vanilla ice cream, or in a smoothie, or just berries to go.

Congratulations to Christopher Paul Manning who graduated on May 31 from basic enlisted submarine school in Groton, Conn. Chris graduated second in his class of 82 sailors – Class 13260 USS Spinax. He was the only one in his class to be meritoriously advanced from E1 to E2.

Condolences to the family and friends of James Alley who passed away last week. He always had a smile and a cheerful story to share with one and all, especially about cars and houses, and he always assisted us when our school bus drivers would allow us to stop at Alley’s General Store for a treat on our way home from school. He will certainly be missed for his unwavering dedication to the town of West Tisbury.
