The Aquinnah holiday party was a very community-spirited event from the youngest Nanawusuwee at six weeks up to the eldest. We will not have to mention any names as there were a few of us tied for that category. Thank you to Nonie Madison for organizing the event with the assistance of some of her elves Adam, Alexandra, Betty, Dan, Jay, Margie, Paul and Theresa. Plans are already underway for next year.

Scalloping season began on Monday this week, amid choppy seas and pouring rain. For now, there will be two level bushels per day per fisherman.

Thank you to Aquinnah highway superintendent Jay Smalley, Aquinnah selectmen Spencer Booker, James Newman and Beverly Wright, and Aquinnah town administrator Adam Wilson for their oversight in the repairs of the destruction caused by the recent storms.

Snow is in the air, or at least it feels as such. The temperatures have dropped to the 30s and 40s most days. Gray skies are starting to surround us. Deer season has been off to a good start in Aquinnah with more than two dozen deer weighed in during the first two days at the tribal weigh-in station that is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Natural resources director Bret Stearns noted the deer are healthy looking and within a good weight range.

So far November has been quite the month for celebrations despite the storms. Reports of another northeaster is in the air.

Thank you to Allison Colarusso, Molly Purves and Lisa Bibko Vanderhoop who went above and beyond decorating the Aquinnah town hall for the Halloween celebration this year. Despite dealing with the storms, Aquinnah should be proud of the voters who were in for the election ­— from the many newly-registered 18 year olds who understood the significance of casting their ballots, all the way up to our 102-year-old elder in Aquinnah.
