Chilmark continues to enjoy the mild temperatures and mostly sunny days of this extended fall season. It is hard to focus, as we must, on the upcoming holiday events and necessary travels included. How many times a day do you hear global warming in local conversations?

There are many dates for activities that you will want to make notes of on your calendars, so I will proceed with notes from my many e-mails.

Chilmark says goodbye to another August. It was an eventful one with earthquakes, a presidential visit, a hurricane and more. The town lost a few trees and a lot of visitors to Irene. Chilmark’s biggest thrill this week has to be the arrival and visit of the Stanley Cup to the Chilmark Community Center. It was the buzz for most of the day. Hooray to all those who got to see and touch!

The days of August have been humid and hot most of the time, with some spectacular lighting and thunder to complete the traditional August experience for New England, but in all, August is providing the vacations that most have anticipated all year.
