Martha’s Vineyard Neighborhood Convention convened at the Tribal Building on Veterans Day. Tobias Vanderhoop presented an overview of the Wampanoag history and culture, followed by a question and answer period. Rev. Robert Hensley, president of the convention, offered a prayer before lunch for the 63 attendees.

Sincerest condolences to the family of Mrs. Eleanor (Thurber) Eglinas who died peacefully at home early on Thursday morning. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Smith Cemetery. Ellie was a classmate in the Class of 1964 at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and has enjoyed visits from her fellow classmates throughout the past week.

Roxanne Ackerman returned home recently after spending a month in California with her mother, Barbara Ackerman.

Cranberry Day celebration was grand this year. There was a more than abundant harvest of cranberries, the last berry of the season in Aquinnah. The potluck was a wonderful evening of socializing with friends and neighbors. Traditional dance and drum was enjoyed by all. We were graced by the presence of the eldest tribal member attendee, Gladys Widdiss, who was photographed with the youngest tribal member, Amos Sauer.

Barry and Grace Reeves graciously opened their Totem Pole Inn on Christmas Eve to host an evening of fellowship following the Candlelight Service at Community Baptist Church.
