Ah, the town of Tisbury’s annual birthday blowout approaches, to be held on July 8. It is now named for Mrs. Martha’s Vineyard, Cora Medeiros, who was devoted to her faith, her family, her friends, her community and her beloved Vineyard Haven.
As always, the art colony on the Island has spectacular summer seasons. Freshly returned from ultra-hip Greenpoint, Brooklyn and his studio there, our own Colin Ruel is on-Island and exhibiting his wonderful work for the summer.
Well, it happened again. Some jerk managed to pull out all the emotions of disgust, disappointment and dread in us last weekend. Refer to them as jerks, which they are. The word terrorist suggests too much power.
Lenny’s Loop has re-congregated for the summer season. Arriving from Connecticut last week for a brief stay were Bill and Jan Stokes, here to work on their gardens and turn on their water. Arriving on Monday were Paul and Marge Howes of New Canaan, Conn., and our town.
Well, I guess David Bowie and Lena Horne and Glen Frye and Maurice White and B.B.King and Prince and her friend Eddie Heywood and Frank Sinatra and Eva Cassidy and Les Paul and all the other great musicians we have lost needed an organist to complete the band. My mother, Iole Jannace Gardella, our beloved Nonna, died at 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday May 10, eight days shy of her 99th birthday.
Welcome to National Do Your Homework for the Government Day, and now this headache should subside for another year. In other civic news, Tisbury, West Tisbury and Edgartown did the right thing and passed the plastic bag ban at Tuesday night’s town meetings.
I hate to admit it but Jeff Petre was correct. No, I did not put away my winter coat as he warned me not to. I took it to the dry cleaners. The rest, as they say, is recent history. I froze all weekend and into the week.
