As autumn arrives, we are already seeing the departure of many of our family, friends and neighbors, heading to their respective winter homes. It was another great summer of renewing friendships of generations, and reminiscing of the more relaxed days around Aquinnah. Many will close their summer homes for the season over the next week, and we will look forward to their return in just a few short months. In the meantime, have a great winter.
Congratulations to attorney general Martha Coakley on her victory in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for our U.S. Senate seat. As Aquinnah goes, so goes the Commonwealth.
In Aquinnah, the board of registrars certainly appreciated the generosity of voters’ donations of delectable delights to sustain us throughout the day.

The holiday week has brought many back to the Vineyard for the holiday and grand family gatherings. It is nice to see people you perhaps only run into on these special occasions.
Beatrice Gentry is a patient at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and expects to return home by the end of the week.
Gladys Widdiss is still recuperating from her recent fall; a patient at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, she anticipates returning home within a week.
The Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribal Youth Council will be sponsoring their spaghetti dinner this evening at the Tribal Building at 7 p.m. Tickets will still be available at the door.
The fall foliage display that we have enjoyed on the Vineyard is coming to an abrupt close with the leaves blowing off the trees and now dotting the landscape along the roadways. We have enjoyed beautiful weather this week with temperatures in the 60s and the roses are still in bloom at the Howes House. Grass is beginning to green and reappear in many areas and is now awaiting a final mow for the season.
