Continued chilly. Lots of rain. Rivers of yellow pollen run to our storm drains.

It was so cold over Memorial Day weekend I was certainly glad I had not put my winter coat and snow shovel away.

Out comes the red, white and blue, my photos of Ed Colligan and the small flag we were all given at his celebration of life, and our deep respect for all who have served.

Some think the first sign of spring on Martha’s Vineyard is the sighting of the first snow drops. Others observe the beginning of spring by turning on the outdoor shower. My own personal harbinger of spring came mid-last week. I removed the first tick from my head.

Could it be? Does it smell like Spring? All two days of it? Just in time to observe Mother’s Day and welcome it in with a new art show at Featherstone.

Cinco de Mayo and the Big Chili contest are upon us. Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. join us at the Portuguese American Club in Oak Bluffs for this fun fundraiser for our Island Red Stocking fund.

Uh-oh. The vote in town on Tuesday had 21 more votes against building a new school. I am sure we have not heard the end of this.

This is school break week. Many families headed for America, on a working boat, of course. I’m proud to be with the staycation crowd.

How about that baseball game Tuesday night? My friends in New York are reeling. Great way to start the season. Go Sox.

It seems hard to look forward to spring but perhaps by Tuesday, April 17 we shall.
