Friday is the beginning of the Columbus Day holiday weekend and the end of the extended shoulder season.
A smattering of pumpkins, mums and Halloween displays are beginning to appear around town as it is just 33 days away.

Well September is slipping away as quick as you can say Jack Frost! It had been warm but a touch of fall, which begins next Friday, is in the air.
The weather over the Labor Day weekend was mostly good. Rain from tropical storm Harvey held off until Saturday night and continued most of Sunday. If you went out to eat Saturday there were lines of people waiting to be seated at the popular restaurants. School opened for the fall term on Tuesday.
We will reach Labor Day on Monday and the unofficial end of the summer season. All municipal buildings and the post office will be closed.
The fair is but a memory as most all of the carnival units returned to the mainland by Wednesday and signs of fall are beginning to appear each day.
It is hard to believe the summer season is fast becoming history. The fair is in full swing. It seems everyone is entertaining house guests.
It sure has felt like summer. It’s warm and it is crowded everywhere. The activity at the Agricultural Hall is at a fever pitch preparing for the fair. Some college students have just begun to leave as many universities open for the fall semester in two weeks. Before the end of the month a significant amount of summer traffic and visitors will begin to head in the other direction as the summer season slowly begins winding down for another year.
