The big news, of course, is the storm now known as Wanda. It had winds of 93 mile an hour here in Edgartown.
I am sitting here listening to the weather and wondering what the next few days are going to bring. It is already raining and the wind is blowing, not badly, but it is starting.
There are a lot of people who vow not to put their heat on until Nov. 1.
We have had a few rainy days, but the rest have been enjoyable. It has been a bit windy, and the windsurfers have taken good advantage of it.
I am enjoying the much-needed rain. On Sunday, I planted some perennials Sunday and when I dug about two inches down, the soil was like powder.
It is layer weather. You have to dress warmly in the morning and by noon you are shedding one or two layers. Just after 3 p.m., you start putting them back on.
The windows are open, the air conditioners are off, it is cool at night for some great sleeping, and the days are warm enough to still wear T- shirts, capris and, most importantly, flip flops.
Hurricane Larry left us with some windy days this past weekend, but it was warm and easy to work in.
We had it all. Ida kept us on our toes.
